The controversial energy re-use technology is to be installed into up to seven Formula 1 cars for the Bahrain Grand Prix. KERS is meant to give 82 brake horse power bursts to the racing cars but this technology has come under scrutiny with regards to the possible
benefits. A mere three drivers had the KERS fitted in the recent Chinese Grand Prix, Shanghai grid.Spanish test driver Pedro de la Rosa believes that KERS could benefit the Felipe Massa’s F60 in the Bahrain Grand Prix citing the three very long straights in the track. Lewis Hamilton and Heikko Kovalainen, the Mclaren duo have consistently used Mercedes KERS since 2009.
Ferrari, Mercedes and BMW have all been assessing the benefits of KERS and so far the drivers with some additional weight have been going without the controversial system due to the diminished benefits. Lighter drivers have indeed seen some benefits and other makes such as Renault are also assessing the possibilities of using KERS in the forthcoming Bahrain Race.
