Most members of parliament in Bahrain want a complete blanket ban on public sale of alcohol in Bahrain’s hotels, restaurants and clubs. Recent vote for a total ban of alcohol consumption gave some leeway
to allow consumption in private homes where suppliers can provide direct home deliveries. The new proposals are now to be sent to the cabinet for approval.Islam prohibits the consumption of alcohol and also forbids trading directly or even being remotely connected with alcohol trade. Shaikh Jassem Al Saeedi, the vice chairman of the legislative and legal affairs committee proposed the complete ban citing fears that alcohol was fuelling vice trade and turning the country into a brothel. He also suggested that this was the main reason behind unclean torism and an increase in the crime rate seen recently.
