Stem Cell unit planned to open in Bahrain

Stem Cell Bahrain Adel Ali Abdullah, the director of the Health Ministry relations revealed yesterday that Bahrain is investigating the possibility of setting up a Stem Cell Centre which would treat diabetics. A team of experts  from Hamburg, Germany is to conduct an initial study to suggest the best ways to go about setting up the facility.

The foreign experts who are from a well known company are to hold discussions with officials from Bahrain health ministry, Salmaniya Medical Complex doctors and other stake holders in the industry. The identity of the foreign firm is to be kept a secret until the final discussions have been wrapped up.

With youngsters as young as 15, 16 developing diabetes, alarmed governments are moving to counter the growing threat of fast food culture that has gripped nations across the GCC. In addition to the introduction of programmes that encourage more involvements in daily activities promoting a healthier lifestyles, the disease itself also needs to be treated and this is the main reason behind Bahrain’s decision to establish new stem cell units.
